Movie critic warns gay Sherlock Holmes will be bad for business

entertainment, lgbt 2 Comments »

Michael MedvedMichael Medved, movie critic and conservative columnist warned in the NY Post that there is no public appetite for turning Sherlock Holmes gay in the new Guy Ritchie film slated for release this Christmas. Robert Downey Jr. who plays Holmes recently described the relationship between him and the Watson character  as “two men who happen to be room-mates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It’s badass.” A none-to-amused Medved in the NY Post:

“There’s not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals,” Medved told us. “I think they’re just trying to generate controversy . . . They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don’t think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don’t want to see it.”

Homophobic much? Trailer for Sherlock Holmes below.

Nope. More gay please. But at least it looks like Guy Ritchie finally has mojo back.

Pete KingCongressman Pete King from New York takes time out of his 4th of July weekend to bash Michael Jackson.

Granted the media coverage has been out of control, but did King really have to go out of his way to lash out at Jackson on charges that were never proven? What a piece of work.

If you feel the need, contact Pete King at his website, or by phone: 516-541-4225, or email: [email protected].

UPDATE: A Fund has been setup to defeat King in his district at ActBlue.

Mollie Sugden of “Are You Being Served?” dead at 86

Mollie SugdenBest known for playing the role of Mrs Slocombe on the 70’s and 80’s British sitcom “Are You Being Served?”, Mollie Sugden passed away today from a long illness at 86.

One of a select bunch of British performers to achieve national treasure status, Sugden was renowned for her portrayal of fearsome battleaxes. The first of such roles to achieve acclaim was as Mrs Hutchinson in The Liver Birds, a series so popular it was revived in the late 90s using the original cast.

She was the star of many other comedies, including Come Back Mrs Noah, That’s My Boy and My Husband And I, which she made with her husband.

But it was as the bossy sales lady Betty Slocombe in Are You Being Served? that she was best known. The long-running, innuendo-laden television comedy was such a hit that a feature film was made based on the series, and it was successfully exported to America. Every episode Sugden sported a different hair colour and continually harped on about her “pussy”.

And without further ado, Mrs. Slocombe and her famous “pussy.”

And my personal favorite… “Dear Sexy Knickers…”

More recently Sugden appeared as herself in another very popular BBC sitcom, Little Britain.
