Michael Jackson passes away at 50

entertainment, music, video No Comments »

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson has died from cardiac arrest at age 50.

Love him or loathe him, Jackson’s talent was undeniable, and his contribution to pop music will likely never be matched. While I was never a huge fan, particularly in later years, I will still mourn his passing. Perhaps his most memorable video, and my favorite, below (excuse the ad at the front, but it was the best quality I could find):

As my partner so eloquently put after hearing the news… today we are “saddened by the passing of an Angel, and the death of a King.”

Good bye Farrah. Goodbye Michael. You will both be missed.

Her long time love Ryan O’Neil released the following statement:

“After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away. Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world.”

She will be missed.

Rob, Arnie and Dawn ShowGranted it’s a comedy show by some crude and talent-impaired shock jocks (and one semi-reasonable jockette), but give me a break. It’s dehumanizing talk like this that nudges someone to act out and hurt someone. Listen to audio from the Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show if you can stomach it. Discussion starts around the 4:45 mark.

It’s easy to forget sometimes living here in this bubble called San Francisco that we are just an hour or two away from such intense prejudice and intolerance. Oh wait a minute, Michael Savage broadcasts from San Francisco. So much for that theory.

GLAAD has now called for an apology from the show.

David Hyde PierceDavid Hyde Pierce who starred on the popular television series Frasier and in multiple shows on Broadway, discussed Prop 8 on the View yesterday, telling the California Supreme Court that his marriage to his partner of 25 years was none of their business. Watch:

It’s nice to see a celebrity with fire in the belly as to the injustices of the Prop 8, instead of the sugar-coating we so often see.
