Sen. Sessions during UAFA hearing: “Enough with the histrionics”

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)So said Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) according to a staffer when one of Shirley Tan’s sons broke into tears as his mother testified at the UAFA hearings in Washington yesterday.

In the clip below, Senator Patrick Leahy stops the hearing briefly near the 5 minute mark as Tan’s son weeps.

When it was his turn to speak, Sessions cited the usual arguments and suspects in his remarks, his opposition to same-sex marriage in full view of the hearing. His remarks can be viewed here.

Just to get a sense of who we are dealing with, watch the clip from Rachel Maddow Show below which digs into Sessions’ “colored” past…

The Senator’s press secretary did not return a call seeking comment. And as for histrionics… I think this is a much better example.

As reported in the New Republic.

Olbermann: Dr. George Tiller’s murder facilitated by Fox News, O’Reilly Factor

activism, media, news, religion Comments Off on Olbermann: Dr. George Tiller’s murder facilitated by Fox News, O’Reilly Factor

Bill O'ReillyKeith Olbermann ended Countdown last night with a call to “quarantine” Fox News for facilitating domestic terrorism and creating a climate which made the assassination of abortion doctor George Tiller possible. Watch:

It’s been interesting to watch the reaction of the Pro-life movement to Tiller’s murder. While the act has been widely and appropriately condemned, many have gone as far as to say Tiller deserved it, “reaping what he sowed.” I’d classify most of these individuals as cowards who don’t have the courage of their convictions to commit the heinous act themselves, but were more than happy to let someone else do the dirty work. And those who aren’t cowards simply need a nudge, only too happily provided by Fox News and talk radio, etc., to push them over the edge…

Back to the quarantine. My current gym shows Fox News on one of its LCD televisions, and I’m constantly having to avert my eyes lest be put in a sour mood… (yes, seriously). We’ve asked them once to change the channel but they refused. Perhaps it’s time to ask again and be prepared to find another gym.

Update:
Rachel Maddow ran a segment on her show this evening discussing individuals such as the ones I mentioned above, who are celebrating the death of Dr. Tiller. Watch:

A gaggle of sign-waving [DADT] protesters milled around outside The Beverly Hilton, the sprawling hotel on Wilshire Boulevard. They must have caught the president’s eye when he arrived at the hotel from an earlier stop in Las Vegas because he relayed one of their messages to the crowd.

“One of them said, “Obama keep your promise,’ ” the president said. “I thought that’s fair. I don’t know which promise he was talking about.”

This morning Choi also appeared on MSNBC with David Shuster discussing his discharge.
